An important problem that has arisen after the cleaning in our days, really goes back to the beginning of the construction of the twin towers in 1966. Many of the construction materials used in the construction of the World Trade Center contained significant amounts of very harmful substance called asbestos.
Inhalation of these fibers of particles very fine (microscopic) can cause major disease, one of the major diseases associated with asbestos exposure is a cancer called mesothelioma. That is why the World Trade Center dust and asbestos is a concern.
A fact sheet, produced by the New York Committee for safety and health puts it this way:
"Asbestos was an important material used in the construction of the World Trade Center." "Asbestos is a constituent of the dust and debris."
Advisor was always for workers in emergencies in the ground zero of the Trade Center, adviser said the volunteers of the workers must wear protective clothing and change of the work of clothing before going out of their homes. He also said, was that working clothes must be packaged at work and washing separately from other laundry to prevent asbestos pollution.
When you add in all the disastrous chemical effects of the attack that day, it actually caused an epidemic. On top of all that, the use and supply of Respirator masks was not at the same time. The question has been, however, whose lack is the lack or improper use of Respirator masks? Immediately after the attack, respirators were not available from the beginning and are not used consistently even when the mask were available.
One of the problems with the respirator masks is that Respirator masks require removal of previous health and testing of adjustment that often is not immediately available for disaster rescue workers. So who is to blame for this? Can anyone really be blamed? Everyone has their own opinion on the matter. But one thing cannot be asserted, the effects of the World Trade Center dust and asbestos are having a terrible effect on the heroes and the people who were there.
The World Trade Center and the asbestos dust has caused a condition that is known as the syndrome of World Trade Center cough. This cough is the product of a poisonous concoction created by the disaster.Materials of construction predominated in the initial period after the fall, while polluting combustion such as rescue, recovery, and advanced cleaning products and continued pulverized. The fire at the ground zero created toxic combustion products, such as dioxins, volatile organic compounds and several other known carcinogenic compounds. They were also found contaminants such as asbestos, silica, PCB, hydrochloric acid and heavy metals in the dust and the resulting ash of the fallen towers.
World Trade Center cough syndrome (a syndrome of chronic cough, thought to be a consequence of the respiratory disease lower and upper, normally including asthmatic bronchitis, rhinosinusitis, gastroesophageal reflux, or any combination of the 3 conditions) reported a significant number of exposed persons. This type of chronic cough is very much in line with a symptom of mesothelioma. Mesothelioma is a rare type of cancer with nearly 2,000 to 3,000 new cases reported each year. Mesothelioma is a killer slow, can take from 15 to 50 years to make his presence. In most cases of the disease occurs in the lining of the lungs of the victim, but may also develop in the lining of the heart or abdomen.
After a long, long battle in the courts, attacking city officials in New York have agreed to pay up to $657,500,000 to thousands of New Yorkers who served as workers of rescue and cleanup at the site of ground zero of the horrible 11 September. It is expected some workers to receive payments from only a few thousand dollars, while others could be in line to receive more than one million, based on the severity of the injuries. Lawyers in New York City had said it did everything possible to provide respiratory equipment for workers, such as mask respirator and and challenged some of the claims that it is based on unstable or questionable medical tests. But in a statement, (current at the time of the decision of the Court) Mayor of New York Michael Bloomberg referred to the settlement as "a fair and reasonable solution to a complex set of circumstances". -----------------------------------------------------------------------------
